Ontario Sailing News and Events

The snow hitting the province over the next two days is just in time to welcome home the single handed sailors on the Ontario Sailing Team and development team (OST and OSDT), who have been down south for the Laser Midwinter’s in Florida. The Midwinter’s is often seen as the kick start to the 2008 season. With nearly 20 racers from Ontario competing and 9 from the OST/DT the season started on a note of co-operation and collaboration. Working with 2 coaches from Ontario Sailing and one from Royal Canadian Yacht Club along with all the support from parents and family there was a strong support network for all.

Special thanks to Paul Davis who organized the repair of the Ontario Sailing Team trailer and Leslie Prokop who helped Joanne Prokop get to the hospital on the second day. Not to worry Joanne recovered and placed 4^th in the Radial Silver Fleet. Three other Ontario Radial Sailors made the Radial Gold Fleet, including Emily Searle (OSDT) and Kristyn Hope (OST).

In the Laser fleet Evan Lewis (Ontario Quest for Gold Athlete) placed 2^nd. Two OST Members also placed in the top 10, Robert Davis placed 6^th and Greg Clunies placed 8^th.
